6 Framed 1904 Bavarian Caricature Litho Prints- J Hoover & Son Philadelphia
A rather unique set of nostalgic satire art, over 100 years past its copyright date, 1904.They're photo prints, made with the early technique of photo lithographyQuitecolorful in therich tones you see as well the characters depicted.Ishot the closest matched figurestogether, front & back, to help illustratethe condition. The characters in order of appearance are:'THE HAPPY DOOSENSOCK' & 'PUTZELHEIMER'; 'A MEMBER OF DAT LEETLE GERMAN BAND' & 'THE WANDERING MINSTREL';'NOT A MILLIONAIRE' & 'NOTAN IRISHMAN'are the last two.I don't know what motivated someone towards this sort of ethnic satire. They sure attempted to ridicule some German folks!Their 8 x 6 size is 9 x 7 in their gorgeous vintage quarter sawn oak frames.Little doubt these frames are original from the period of these prints. The prints are ugly, ludicrous & lovely all at once! Real goofy-looking characters. They would decorate just about anywhere paired artwork is needed.Condition-wise the prints have not been removed for cleaning behind the glass. The paper has some debris between it & the glass-Appears to be mostly on the glass itself&should clean well. The backing paperboard is yellowed & crumbly with oxidationAgain, little doubt as to this being the original framing. The glass on 'The Wandering Minstrel' is missing a corner. On'THE HAPPY DOOSENSOCK' (the sot standing with the tuba full of beer bottles by his foot)The frame's lower left joint has a little separation- it's still holding together asall frames were nailed.Georgia sales are billed 7% state sales for looking! Please, ask questions at any time-I don't post responses on my / NO HIDDEN in Antique & VintageFindsArtwork & All Sorts & GoodiesMan was just not meant to exist without!PLUS...Plainly Practical Products! You reallynever know what you might shoppingat its best!THE BOTTOM LINE:Other storesmakegood peoplen~e~r~v~o~u~s~!They say:No Shirt?, No Shoes?NO SERVICE!But evenoutlawswith no
