Ocean Liners Titanic, Lusitania, Manhattan,Normandie & The Queen Mary
This DVD is a collection of RARE and astounding footage of the Historical "Ocean Liners of the 20th Century". From the RMS Titanic, to the RMS Lusitania, to the conversion of the American Ocean Liner SS Manhattan to the USS Wakefield AS-21 to the sabotage of the SS Normandie, Sinking of the Andrea Doria and many more. The story of the USS Wakefield AS-21 is as Rare as the RMS Titanic film. If you have seen any of our DVD's you might notice that we collect film and newsreels. We then try to bring you something unique and rare if possible on a topic. This DVD is for sure one of those and we hope you enjoy this collection.
1st Film: "The Story of a Transport". This one of our films that we digitized at 720 res. and it is very RARE. It is the story of the USS Wakefield AS-21, and how she was used by the US Navy and the USCG as a troop transport during WW2. Also has the history if her as the SS Manhattan because the USS Wakefield AS-21 was the SS Manhattan. This film is a very good history of the ship as both the Wakefield and as the Manhattan. Very interesting to see. Runtime 20:27 Min's
2nd Film: "RMS Titanic". This film is the orginal Nickelodeon film shown almost over 100 years ago that was restored in 1960. It is also one of our films that we digitized at 720 res. We at Campbellfilms are just a Father and Son business and the Son is a film editor, so he took the freedom to cut and past one version of this film with photos and music. Plus, we also included the entire uncut version w/out sound at the second half of the film just as it was seen 90 years ago in a Nickelodeon parlor. So you can see both versions. Runtime 20:33 Min's
3rd Film: "The Sinking of the RMS Lusitania". This film was produced around 1916 to show the American people of the dastardly deed that the German U-boat 20 did by torpedoing the ship of the coast of Ireland in 1915. America was a nuetral country and did not want to get involved in a European war, but Americans were insenced by the loss of innocent life not to mention over 170 Americans died on that ship as well. This film is a mixture of film and animation and was very advanced for it's day. Over 25,000 drawings were used to create this story on film. Very historic. Runtime 11:01 Min's.
4th Film: "SS Normandie". This is a collection of film about the beautiful French Ocean Liner SS Normandie. The ship was considered as one of the most beautiful ships in the world, but after Germany conquered France at the begining of WW2, The SS Normandie was confiscated by the US Government and was renamed the USS Layette only to have a fire breakout which lead to her capsizing in the harbor. What a loss. after 3 years, she was floated and scrapped. This collection shows these events with narration. Amazing to see. Runtime 5:00 Min's. B/W
5th Film: "Shipwrecks". Here is a collection of shipwrecks on the high seas. From the SS Noronic, to the greek freighter on the rocks, to 10 day struggle of the "flying Enterprise until she sank, to the Sinking and Dive on the wreck of the "Andrea Doria" to the a tanker split in half, to loss of the ss Greenleaf to the sinkings in the Suez canal. . . Runtime 16:05 Min's
6th Film: "Ocean Liner Newsreels". This is a collection of the use of Midway stories. 1st: 1937 Troops for China 1937 from San Diego. 2nd: Wac Troopship to Australia. 3rd: Troopships in Atlantic Convoy. 4th: SS Monterey Troopship. 5th: Troopship Queen Mary. 6th: Ocean Liner Amsterdam. 7th: US Troopship bring troops home. 8th: US Army troopship Upshur. 9th: SS Hover. 10th: France builds new Ocean Liner. 11th: Queen Mary brings troops home. Fun to see. Runtime 14:59 Min's
7th Film: "Building the Queen Mary". This is an extremely RARE footage of the building and launching of the Queen Mary. It also includes the Queen and King visiting the launching of the Largest Ocenliner of the time. King Edward VIII actually goes on board to inspect the finished ship. We also added some additional newsreels on the RMS Queen Mary at sea, as a military transport, bringing troops back, to her final days in England as she sails away to Long Beach, Ca. to be a floating Hotel and museum. Runtime 6:04 min's
We are asmall familybusiness (mostly father & son)that collects old films to save them from the trash heap. We digitize them in HD to save a copy for future generations. The Son went to film school and the father is passionate about history and assembles the content. The result is why folks comment on the "Quality and Content" of our OLD FILM's DVD's. Although we are not Hollywood, we think that you'll like these old historic films too.
If you are a Veteran, or have a family member that is, and have old pictures, slides, 16mm film or 8mm film and you can’t afford to get them transferred, contact me, and I’ll do for free. I’m a vet too and we support our troops. Our goal is to save old film for future generations.
