A beautiful example of an original 13th century AD medieval ring set with a garnet cabochon

26 mm overall, 20.75 mm internal diameter, approximate size British W, US 11

In very good condition, a fully wearable example, the original garnet cabochon has an edge chip as shown, still a beautiful example with a lovely inner glow

Thick bronze ring is a wide very comfortable fitting, the band  ranging from 5-8 mm in width

Garnets have long been associated with blood because of their red color. They are reputed to be a stone that brings business success

Garnet is derived from the Latin word "granum" meaning "grain". This refers to the typically rounded shape of Garnet and also reminiscent of the seeds of the pomegranate. Garnets have been widely known for thousands of years

Even Noah, it is reported, used a lantern from garnet in order to safely steer his Ark through the darkness of the night. Although the color red occurs most frequently, there are also garnets showing different shades of green, pale to bright yellow, fiery orange and fine earth- and umbra-shades
