A+ Collector Quality Full Pile Antique 19th Century Persian Baluch Bag Face. Wow:
SPECIAL QUALITYANTIQUE BALUCH SADDLEBAG FACING, NE Persian tribal, Khorasan region, probably from the Kashmar area, last quarter of the 19th century, and comingin excellent, near-mint, original condition for the specialist collector with allover full pile (see close upphoto 12). Thesize is:2'-4" x2'-6" (71 "do-gul" (two flower) or "gol-e shaftalu"(nectar blossom) ornaments accompanied by smaller "mina khani" white petals juxtaposes nicely with the dark indigo blueground color on thisfinely createdantique Baluch tribalcollector's bag face. Thecommonly found main border surround element with glowing color nicely frames the field composition. The weaving has an asymmetrical knot structure open to the left on natural ivory wool warps and finely spun natural medium brown wool wefts. The knotting is precise and compact (see photo 11)with 100% natrual, plant-derived, dyes for the pile. The brown dye lot is oxidized, a testament to great age. The two-cord side over-castings are original and complete and wrapped in two different hues natural brown wool colors. The top and bottom endings are original and complete with remnants at both endsofthe weft-float brocade flat-weave design element finishes. Both endings need to be sewn secure to prevent any future loss of structure. This special 19th century Baluch saddle bag facecomes in a splendid state of preservation for its antique age with only one small blemish of a moth bite grazing area (see photo 10).Ithas just been professionally cleaned to museum standards andis now collection ready. This fine antique textile relic will make avisually decorative statement as atribal textile art wall hanging and it displays better illuminatedby direct lighting to expose the beautifully swarthy color palette that the best of Baluch weavings possess. The wool quality is superb, soft and silky to the touch giving the bag face a lustrous visual appeal that my photos fail to capture. If you have any questions about this lovely antique Baluch saddlebag facing, email Michael Phillipsor feel free to call my studio at: (303) 885-7599.
