A.E. HOUSMAN. Autograph Letter Signed ("A.E. Housman") in black fountain pen ink, University College, London, April 13, 1905, on bifold leaf, 4 1/2" x 7", 2 pages. Fine.

"I have no personal knowledge of the New Irish literary set, which dates from ten or twelve years back, but I believe its leading members are Mr. W.B. Yeats the poet, Mr. George Russell, who publishes verse under the pseudonym 'A.E.', Dr. Douglas Hyde, who translates the old Irish poetry, and Mr. George Moore the novelist..."

Housman (1859-1936), born March 26, 1859; died April 30, 1936; English poet and Latin scholar; best known for his first book "A Shropshire Lad" 1896, which describes his passionate love for a college friend, Moses Jackson.
