Ogawa Bunsai
Bunsai is well known to have been five-generation Kyoto family potters. The first generation of the potter is said to have been most versed in constructing pottery kilns after visiting many local locations throughout the country between 1818 and 1830. In 1847 Bunsai I was retained by Ichijōkō in Kyoto where a new kiln was opened by the potter who taught the art of ceramics. Bunsai began manufacturing ceramics in his own family kiln in Gojōzaka in 1878. The maker of the current lot is thought to have been made in the same Bunsai workshop under the supervision of either Bunsai II (?-1887) or Bunsai III , as the yellow enamelled lidded bowl (item no.121105737325) that has been sold here. Bunsai's work was exhibited at the World Columbus Exposition (1893) "Bunsai Ogawa, Kyoto, porcelain ware" in Group 91, no.396. The current family potter is Bunsai V (second son of
Bunsai IV.

METHODS OF TRANSPORT
Purchased goods are shipped worldwide by EMS (International Postal Express Mail Service offered by postal-administration members of the Universal Postal Union) or private couriers (P/C) in one business day (JST) on receipt of payment or cleared funds in full. All purchased goods are required to be despatched to the payer's address confirmed by PayPal, should payment is made by this on-line intermediary firm. Purchased merchandise can also be handed over to a purchaser in person domestically.

Estimated international shipping based on the total packed weight and destination zones are quoted just below the descriptive information on each item. International shipping quoted is what a shipper charges to the seller in Japan. The actual total EMS postage in JPY and weight of a shipment (grammes) are filled in on a shipment package.

Under the current regulation, shipping is now required to be quoted in selling goods. Since all goods are despatched from Japan where shipping is obviously charged to the seller in JPY, the latest PayPal's official exchange rates of the day when an item is listed must unavoidably be adopted, although the exchange rate adopted may change by the time when an invoice will have been e-mailed to the buyer. Estimated international shipping in US dollar is based on conversion from JPY to US dollar with the latest exchange rate quoted by PayPal and rounded to the nearest US dollar, as many overseas buyers choose PayPal as the principal method of method. A combined shipment can be arranged for multiple purchases to minimise international shipping providing that all purchased goods are packed in an available box.

Delivery time depends on the speed of clearance of goods at Customs, which substantially varies from country to country.

INSURANCE
Insurance will be based on the total value of a shipment. A single shipment valued under 20,000 JPY (based on the latest foreign currency exchange rate) is included in the shipping quoted. Insurance for a shipment valued above this threshold will be added to an invoice as seller's charges.

IMPORTATION OF MERCHANDISE
Unless otherwise merchandise is shipped domestically, customs duties based on the declared Customs value of merchandise may be payable. These extra charges are not included in the total price in an invoice. Custom duties rates vary from country to country and all prospective buyers are advised to know what import duties will be with the Customs office of the country to which merchandise is imported. No import duties are payable for "antiques" in USA.

All lots offered by the seller are subject to laws governing exports from Japan. A single shipment valued over 200,000 JPY requires an export permit at Customs in Japan. All necessary permits in exporting goods from Japan are undertaken for buyers.
