A Meissen Commedia Dell'Arte Figure

After the model by J.J.Käendler

On offer here is this charming and desirable Meissen porcelain figurine of Mezzetin,
from the Italian Commedia Dell' Arte series, originally modelled by
J.J.Käendler, of circa 1738-40.

This particular example dates from the 20th century.

Mezzetin is depicted here standing in dramatic dancing pose with his right leg extended,
his left leg bent and his hands boldly placed on his hips.

He is wearing a dark cloth cap flowing down over his shoulders, a white shirt with ruff collar
and cuffs, a blue jacket with gilt edging and buttons, a red cloak draped over his right arm,
canary yellow breeches and black shoes tied with pink ribbon bows.

Standing in front of a white tree stump adorned with scattered flowers and foliage
on an irregular shaped base.

Marked to the base with a 1st quality Meissen crossed swords device, with model
# 255 in relief, also an impressed assembler's # 42 and painter's # 2.
