English, dating from the second half of the 18th century - Hallmarked c. 1791. A gentleman's George III travelling corkscrew - The oval Sterling silver grip section is inset with two mother-of-pearl panels - each panel finished with bright-cut decoration. The grip is centrally decorated with beading and reeded bands - detailed above. The slightly tapering screw mounting cover section is finished with simple ring form decoration. Image 11, details the original double lobe form steel worm - the tip of which is fully intact. The face to the base of the casing is clearly stamped with the maker's mark - " S P " - Samuel Pemberton*, Birmingham - see image 12. *This maker's Hallmark was used by Pemberton for only three years - 1790-1792, see "Jackson's Silver & Gold Marks" Overall height - 3 5/16" (84mm).Very good, untouched period condition - no repairs, minor bumps to the silver casing, (consistent with age and usage).
