This posnet is 12\" long including the handle, it is 5 1/4\" high, the diameter is 6\". It weighs 3 lbs 11 oz.
Guaranteed old and authentic. From a New England estate, has been in my collection for several decades.
It has a strong gate mark from the foundry process that put it in the latter 18th century time frame.
Posnets were an ancient design, bronze ones were found in Europe that predate the iron age. The straight gate mark on the bottom was an 18th century advance in the foundry process, prior to this they had round sprue marks on the bottom where the molten iron was poured.
