A Very Rare Korean Iron
Portable Hand-Carrying Lantern (조족등)-19th C:
Korea, Joseon dynasty, 19th century.
***This type of iron portable lantern (조족등) is extremely rare and
it's never been
published in museums, private collections or in sale houses as my best knowledge.
Made with iron in the shape of lotus
hexagonal lower body, and cylindrical iron hand carrying bar
with a folding
curtain shape floral decoration. Inside, the candle is supported by a revolving
that allows the candle to remain in up-right, irrespective of the direction the lantern swings.
It’s in fair condition with its aged rust and
patina (some body panel loosened but
easily can fix it),
it measures 14” h x 9” d. (35cm x 23cm) respectably.
