AN ADDRESS TO THE CITIZENS OF MASSACHUSETTS, ON THE CAUSES AND REMEDY OF OUR NATIONAL DISTRESSES.

A fine early vintageand genuine antique booklet, in crude hand sewn wraps. Has original owner's autograph and long notation on front title page. Published in Boston at the Repertory Office, 1808. Written "by a fellow sufferer". 13pp, hand printed on hand made paper.

Booklet has soiling, and wear, last few pages center [ which we show ] has a bit of damage., also some pencil notations, etc. These were done in the 1930's. Booklet is original and very interesting regarding the situation of the nation in relation to Great Britain. The Constitution is cited many times., all out war is discussed, the United States Ship Chesapeake was attacked by a British Frigate of War in our own waters.,

Britain pretends to be friendly to the United States while taking action counter to that on the high seas. Total embarrassment to this nation that wedo not take a stand againstthese outrages...Talks of France trying in all itswill to force us from the seas, talks of Thomas Jefferson not standing up to the French., he should have called upon the Congress to declare these outrages as an injury to our country...etc etc.

This may be somewhat soiled, but the writer is firm in his address about what is going on. [ The War of 1812came about because ofwhat this writer is speaking ]. Very historical.
