Aesthetic Brown Transferware Butterfly Rose Plate Suez Pattern Burgess & Leigh :
AESTHETIC Brown Transferware Butterfly Rose Plate 'SUEZ' Pattern
Burgess & Leigh, The Hill Pottery, Staffordshire, EnglandSo very representational of the Aesthetic Movement with it's use of nature and oriental influence in the design. The transfer pattern is clear and crisp in a rich brown on a cream body with ribbon garland, roses, ivy and medallions. One of the medallions has a delightful design of a butterfly. The glaze does cause bounce-back on the right side of the images. We have shown several views of the plate so you can see that the transfer design is in excellent condition. A gorgeous glaze, no restoration. This is in very good condition with light under glaze crazing and just one very tiny chip to the rim edge (see image) with tight fine hairline from that chip on the back, not on the front. No utensil marks. The reverse bears the backstamp of Burgess & Leigh, The Hill Pottery, with the Beehive mark which was from 1862 to 1889 along with impressed marks.
