Exceptionalluster.
Sharp
strike. Lightly tonedsurfaces. Extremelyrare. This
coin appears to be a very slight variety of the one pictured in the
Krause catalog.
Full disclosure: This coin is not mine, but consigned. The consignor
told me the following story which I independently confirmed with the
two outside specialists. This coin was submitted to one of the two
major TPG and their outside specialist/authenticator declared
itgenuine. The TPG eventually decided against putting it in a
slab until the submitter could provide a picture of another example
with the same minor die variation. This coin was then shown to the
independent outside authenticator for the other TPG and he declared
itgenuine, but said that they would not put it into a slab
until they had proof of another example matching this die variety.
Therefore, if it matters to you, you will not get this coin into a slab
until you can find another matching example. Given the rarity and
infrequency that these come up for sale, you will need to spend quite a
bit of time researching these coins to find another matching example.
