Amazing Pr 19c Chinese Carved Soapstone Vases & Stands W Old Colors & Thin Walls For SaleOffered here is an amazing pair of late 19c Chinese soapstone vases withattachedstands carved in deep relief along with pierced openwork and wonderful vivid old colors. These vases were produced in China sometime in the late 19c or very early 1900s of the Qing period and are of a seldom seen type with a high standard of workmanship and details having both vases worked from superb colorful material with excellent surface patina and sheen with the black accents used in the areas of the vines along with light olive, tan, russet, orange and dark brown. The shapes are not perfectly square as the carver wanted to make certain that the colors ended up in the areas desired as like most rock material the color veins go in and out so the stone is looked over carefully prior to carving. All four edges are executed in fine pierced openwork detail showing trailing grape vines with an abundance of various sized leaves and berries with cross over vines and stems along with each vase having a squirrel or tree rat crawling up from a bottom vine. Both vase bodies are well hollowed right to the very bottom with the walls being very translucent looking from the inside out through the flat areas to the sides as the material is onlly 1/8" thick in areas and the stands or base sections are done in a olive color with dark stained highlights and are affixed to the bodies. Condition is excellent with only a couple of small leaf tips appearing to be nicked off but these could have easily been done during the carving and drilling process when made and a few tiny chips to the foot bottom edges otherwise no serious faults what so ever. Sizes: Height 8" x Maximum Width 4". An outstanding pair of antique soapstone carvings which would make an impressive display focus or a great addition to ones collection so offer to win as I have not seen many of these types of vases in these colors or quality!
