American Dated 1874 Gorham Sterling Silver Calling Card Case No Reserve:
AMERICAN DATED 1874 GORHAM STERLING SILVER CALLING CARD CASE
This listing is for a circa 1874 American Gorham sterling silver calling card case and chain. The case weighs 90.2 grams or 2.90 troy ounces. It measures 4 by 3 inches or 10 by 7.5 cm. The chain is 7 3/8 inches long to the top of the case.
The case is all sterling silver with a scalloped edge. It has a small hinge at the top on one side to open the case. The hinge is tight and the case is secure. Both sides are engraved; the front has an oval cartouche at the center with a three letter monogram “MSE”, the back has a simple border and chased design. The inner rim of the case is marked with the Gorham marks and the date letter “G” for 1874. The case has a sterling silver chain link handle which is unmarked, but has been tested and is guaranteed to be sterling silver.
It is in excellent condition for its age; there is minor, age appropriate, scuffing to the surface of the case. Please see the photographs for more on the look and condition of this fine American sterling silver card case.
