PRESENTED IS A QUALITY EARLY VICTORIAN STERLING SILVER FOUR PIECE TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE CREATED BY THE NOTABLE LONDON MAKER \'WILLIAM HUNTER\' IN 1845;

WILLIAM HUNTER\'S MARK WAS FIRST REGISTERED IN 1840 AND CAN BE SEEN ON PIECES AS LATE AS 1884. THIS EXTRA-ORDINARILY LONG CAREER IN THE CRAFT VOUCHES FOR HIS SUCCESS AS A MAKER OF FINER SILVER;

THIS TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE WAS PRESENTED TO MAJOR ARCHIBALD CAMPBELL GALBRAITH BY THE GOVERNORS OF THE TORONTO WESTERN HOSPITAL ON HIS RETIREMENT ON FEBRUARY 1st 1930; AND, IS ENGRAVED WITH THE RECIPIENT\'S FAMILY CREST. THE SERVICE WAS ORIGINALLY ACCOMPANIED BY A SILVER TRAY BY ANOTHER MAKER OF THE PERIOD ON WHICH THE PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION APPEARED-- THE DOCUMENT ATTESTING TO THE PROVENANCE WILL BE PROVIDED TO THE SUCCESSFUL buyer;

EXTENSIVELY MARKED ON THE UNDER-SIDES, THE INSIDE OF THE COVERS, THE FINIALS, AND THE HANDLES OF THE TEA AND COFFEE POTS;

THE SET PRESENTS VERY WELL: THERE IS A SMALL AREA OF OLD RESTORATION TO THE INSIDE SHOULDER OF THE TEAPOT WHICH CAN  ONLY BE FELT AND NOT  SEEN DUE TO ITS LOCATION--  WITHOUT ANY  IMPACT TO THE OUTER SURFACE. THE HANDLES SECURE, THE INSULATORS TIGHT, THE COVERS CLOSE FLUSH, ALL PIECES STURDY AND WITH NO WOBBLE, MARKS WELL STRUCK AND CLEAR, NO DENTS;

HEIGHT OF COFFEE POT: 10 1/4\";

WEIGHT: 77 1/5 STANDARD OUNCES
(2,195 Grams)

Please note:The hallmarks on the set consist of:i- The same four marks on the underside of the four pieces; namely, the maker\'s mark, the Lion Passant for sterling silver, the year mark for 1845, the bust of Queen Victoria for duty, and the leopard head for the city of London;2- At the end of the handles of the coffee pot and the teapot-- the bust of Queen Victoria and the Lion Passant;3- On the inside of the covers of the teapot and the coffee pot-- The maker\'s mark, the Lion Passant, and the year mark for 1845; and,4- On the finials of the teapot and coffee pot-- the maker\'s mark, the bust of Queen Victoria, and the Lion Passant.Our photographer failed to capture the year mark at the proper angle. Perhaps, the following picture would be of avail. The first one is of the marks under the cover of one of the post, and the second of the year mark of the teapot.
