An Extremely Rare & Important,new England Fire Bucket, "j. ( John) Goddard :
An Extremely Early ,Extremely RARE and IMPORTANT , Paint Decorated, Signed " J. Goddard, NO 1, 1817", American ,( New England) ,Paint Decorated " Fire Bucket", Belonging to the " John Goddard Family " with Written Provenence, and It's in it's original state. The Paint is Entirely Original ,and Untouched, and retained at about 97%. The Handle is Original ,One of the Leather Handle Tabs has come Loose over the Years. The Goddard Family were Famous Furniture makers in Newport ,Rhode Island, and a Goddard Family Member, later Married into the Townsend Family ,also Famous Furniture makers of that area. John Goddard ( the First ) 1723-1785, Was the Maker who did the " Block Front Chippendale Designs ,still used today. This Fire Bucket was most likely the property of John Goddard the Second. It is an Absolute Piece of American Folk Art, and is Second to none ,especially with it's Provenence. It has an Estimated Shop or Show Value of between 4,800.00 and 6,900.00. It has NO restorations ,and is in ready to display condition. It looks like it will still hold Water ,but don't do that !!! It measures about 12 1/2" high ,and is is about 8 1/2" in Dia.
