Bronze figure of Padmapani, also known as “Holder of the Lotus" and Lokeśvara or "Lord of the World." Also called Maitreya in Sanskrit designation. Dates from ca. 1000 AD in the Pala Period (650-1174 AD), Northeast India. Depicts the figure seated in royal ease rajalilasana pose with the left hand raised in the abhaya mudra or gesture of assurance (abhaya mudra), and the right hand in the giving varada mudra gesture. Enthroned within a flame halo at the back. Guaranteed to be authentic, ancient and as described.
