Ansonia 8 Day Antique Parlor Mantel Clock Original Beautiful Runs Great:
This is a SUPERIOR example of a Seth Thomas HIGH QUALITY Parlor Clock in wonderful 100% ALL ORIGINAL condition. This is truly a great clock. One of Seth Thomas' finest efforts. This wonderful clock is straight 100% all there and has not been repaired or messed with in any way – all original and probably a one owner clock – someone who cared deeply for it. It is a very classy mantle clock in need of a warm loving home. It was made circa1889 and is listed in the book "Seth Thomas Clocks and Watches" by Tran Duy Ly. It has a signed large and heavy duty "Seth Thomas Clock Co" 8-day time and strike large hip movement which chimes HOUR AND HALF HOUR with a beautiful sound on a large gong. This fine clock also has an alarm feature which sounds the alarm on a brass bell. This clock no doubt woke the family for many years. It is a very strong runner! The movement runs very well and keeps good time. The movement was just cleaned, oiled, pivots polished and bushings added where needed. This clock will not need servicing for many years to come, and is ready for the next 100 years! This is a labor intensive service, with many clockmakers charging 250.00 and up. We recommend having it oiled every 2 to 3 years to keep it in tip-top shape! With the purchase of this clock for an additional $ 2.25 we will include an oiler kit with a professional oiler loaded with enough oil to oil approximately 50 clocks with easy instructions so you could even do it yourself! The Seth Thomas Clock Company was started in 1820 and has been known for making high quality clocks. With this clock being no exception. The SOLID WALNUT case is in GREAT ALL ORIGINAL condition. This clock has definitely not been worked very much as the original screws and screw holes for the movement are tight, with no additional screw holes. The wavy fancy glass is original and in perfect condition with the original design. The metal around the dial (brass) is original and is aged to a very nice patina (no extra screw holes). The hands are original (see picture). The back is original and perfect with the 100% paper label with lots of directions. The movement is signed. Complete with the original old Seth Thomas heavy fancy pendulum and a new American heavy duty key. We cannot say enough about this fine clock! Even still retains the original paper pouch on the bottom where the key and pendulum was placed well over 100 years ago. The clock is large and heavy and measures 24 ½ inches high, 5 inches deep and 14 inches wide. The name Seth Thomas is synonymous with high quality and good taste. Not always the first on the scene with the latest movement "improvement" or flashy case style, Seth Thomas was slow to adopt changes and only when the marketplace had given it acceptance to other companys' breakthrough advances would Seth Thomas slowly and carefully bring their high quality clocks to the marketplace. The results, however, were always the same. When the Seth Thomas clock arrived it was an instant success and it captured the market. As the years have passed, the quality of Seth Thomas clocks has been proven over and over. They are the best. These antique clocks amaze me - could you imagine any other consumer product still working after over 100 years! And the truly amazing thing with proper care they will work easily past the next 100 years, with this clock going well beyond that!
