Antique 18th Century Felling Axe Blacksmith Hand Forged 1700s Trade Tool Rare:
Here we have a very uncommon find and that would be an older antique Hand forged felling axe that I believe is from the 18th century. While always hard to date exactly when something like this was made it is certainly very old and was made in the same way and is the same form as 1700s examples. Please see my photos and make up your mind. Head measures about 8 inch overall with a 4 11/2 inch cutting edge, head weighs about 4 lbs..Blacksmith Hand made out of one piece of iron with a wrapped around eye then the blade was forge welded together, imagine it has a steel cutting bit forge welded in. very interesting is that it has the letter L cut into one side and the other a faint S , maybe another letter in front of it but hard to say.Poll has a crack down the back from being struck, also another very tight crack coming down the side on the one side.Head is rather rusted and pitted...Please see my photos which shows everything very well. I found this axe head years ago while looking through a fallen down Bank Barn up in Pennsylvania.....Interesting older American real classic 1700's Axe that I know you wre going to love...Starting sale off low with andonly $5.80 postage anywhere in the USA, more for foreign buyers
