This sale is foran Antique Pleated/Accordian Silk Navy Blue Gown by "BABANI, 98 B HAUSSMANN, PARIS". This gorgeous dress has a lot of agerelated issues such as being fragile, silk tearing and shredding. Actually I was very interested in the history and feel this aged garment is museum quality for a collector of antique clothing. They could probably tell me a thing or two about antique clothing and textiles. All in all this garment is sold as is as I have tried to describe it and show photos as best I can.I don't believe it can be worn.
"Vitaldi Babani opened his House of Babani in 1895 as an importer of Oriental goods. Babani was located in Paris, on the rue haussmann, in the heart of the shopping district. The store was to Paris what Liberty was to London, selling a mix of fabrics, home decor and fashion, much of it inspired by the East, and all of it “Bohemian” in nature. Babani was known for their embroidered silk velvets, which look to be a variation on the stenciled silks that were produced by Fortuny around the same time. Notable clients included the Spanish artist "Joaqu N Sorotta", who while in Paris September 1913 ordered two kimonos from Babani. Actress "Eleonora Duse" bought a number of Fortuny garments there and "Katharine Hepburn" wore a crushed white velvet Babani dress with antique gold embroidery for her 1928 wedding to "Ludlow Ogden Smith"."
