This sale is for an old Art Deco Era pair of Egyptian Figure Bookends , made by Ronson (Aronson) . The books shown in one of my photos are not real books . They are Hollywood props .
There is some damage on these , so I would call these FIXERS . Please read the details .In my 8th photo with the close up of the arms , the hands have come away from the temple wall . This is a right side view of this bookend , and I have 2 paper arrows pointing at these hands . That is all that is wrong with this bookend .My 9th , 10 , & 11 photos are of the other bookend , where I have used more paper arrows to point out damage to this one .
The 9th is a full view of this one , and the 10th and 11th is a close up of where the damage is .
The 10th photo shows where the hands have come away from the temple wall .
The 11th photo shows where there is a crack at the base of the wall & the platform she is standing on .
It does not go all the way across but is more than half way across . There is a metal plate under part of the felt bottom , that I am pretty sure can be carefully preyed off , to access inside the book end , to attempt any repairs from the inside .
I have had a pair of these years ago , with the felt missing off the bottom , so I know the wall is hollow , and just a part of the platform where it meets the wall is also .
The exact way to make the needed repairs I am not sure off , because I am not a handy person .
I had thought some of the liquid metal soldier products might do the job , but when I looked at Home Depot , there were too many different such products , and again I am not familiar with any of them . My uneducated thought was to somehow brace the bookend to straighten the wall , so the hands touch it , use one of these repair products and fill the hollow space underneath , which may not be practical or the correct way to do the repair . I know since these are so old , caution would be needed in any repair , just so the crack does not get worse during the repair process .
I do think these are going to take someone who is experienced to do any of this .
I guess there is also the possibility that these cannot be repaired .The paint is original , and needs a tad of cleaning .
They have the original aged patina , some age nicks in the metal , and also some paint scrapes .Each bookend measures approx. 6 1/4 inch tall , at the head , 6 5/8 inches long , and about 5 3/8 inch wide , the length of the wall . These are being sold as is and as FIXERS .These are very heavy weighing approx. 11 lbs. , together, so shipping will not be inexpensive .The shipping ( 13 lbs. 12x12x12) cost on this , to any of the 50 U.S. States is $47.75 , via Insured Economy Mail .
