These are fabulously chic sterlingsilver buttons that were converted to screw back earrings in the 1970s. A knowledgeable er has informed me that these earrings are stylized swans with their bills tucked behind their wing.

The earrings have weight to themapproximately 7.38 grams. The sterling part of the earring weighs 5 grams as Ihad another pair with post backs that I sold last summer on . They areconstructed of two pieces of silver soldered together seamlessly. They have adomed appearance from the side.

They measure 13/16ths of an inch indiameter and 1/4 of an inch high. On the reverse both earrings are hallmarked Sterling, Lico, Taxco,925. The screw backs themselves are not silver per my silver testing kit butappear to be.

Since theyare screw backs you can adjust them precisely to the size of your earlobe--- astight or loose as you want them. The photo illustrates the screw back in atighter setting--thinner earlobes. When the screw back is opened all the way itwill accommodate a 1/4 inch thick earlobe or smaller--one slight twist of thescrew will hold the earring securely to your earlobe if it is 1/4 inch thick orif your earlobe is smaller --you twist the screw back more times.

When the screw back is completely opened it is 5/8ths of an inchaway from the back of the earring. The C or inverted U-shaped wire loop is9/16ths of an inch wide.

Lico is a well-known Mexicansilversmith of the 1940s who worked in Mexico Cityas well as Taxco.His vintage solid silver necklaces and belt buckles sell for over $600 on theInternet.
