Antique 19th Cent Anglo Indian Wooden Carved Sadeli Inlay Palace Box Sandalwood?:
You are invited to offer on this antique late 19th century handcrafted Anglo Indian wooden carved sadeli work box which I believe dates to around c1900's and to be made from sandal wood?.This lovely oblong box has been intricately carved on its hinged lid with an Indian palace surrounded by a pretty floral leaf decoration. Framing this image there is ebony wood ?, ox bone and bead sadeli mosaic inlay. Around the sides there is also a carved band detail with further inlay decoration. Inside the lid is lined with rich burgundy velvet and the hinges are made from brass. It measures approx. 1.75" by 10.75" by 4".There is some damage to the ebony? banding and the inlay is slightly missing in places. The bone inlay is missing on one corner and there is slight rubbing. Underneath there are a couple of cracks to the wood and one of the nails holding the hinge has been replaced and bent and another nail is missing from the hinge (see final photo for these points). Inside the is some damage to the side strip of wood and some staining/soiling to the box. This box is missing its key (see photos).A lovely antique Anglo Indian wooden carved box to add to your collection which goes well with other matching boxes I am currently selling. Please feel free to ask me any further details and take at my other items for sale.
