Antique 19thc Nathaniel Mills Solid Sterling Silver Table Snuff Box, Bham 1848:
An early Victorian silver rectangular snuff box with scrolling shaped
edges to top and base and incurved sides, with very fine engine turned decoration surrounding a central
engraved cartouche with bold leaf scroll corner ornaments. This is a truly superb box, by Nathaniel Mills - one of the most highly regarded, sought after and collected Silversmiths.
The exquisitely crafted engraving reads:
Presented to Richard Phillips
As a small token of the esteem and respect of a few friends
IN BARROW IN FURNESS
All I can say is - what great friends!!
An antique silver snuff box in very good condition, by a world renowned maker. The surface shows signs of light wear commensurate with age and use, mainly to the base. The internal gilt wash is beautifully intact. There are two very shallow dinks to the lid, possibly as a result of the engraving. Please see the images provided which complement this description.
