Antique early 20th Century Indian Kutch (Cutch) Solid Silver heart shaped Pincushion and Trinket box. Much of Indian silver has no marking at all, but Kutch silver is distinguished by its closely worked, foliate, repoussé design. The repoussé work was accomplished by creating the form of the piece, filling it with a resin compound, then working the silver from the outside, hammering it into the resin. When the work was complete, the piece was heated until the resin filling melted out, leaving the now-empty piece beautifully decorated. This piece features a beautiful series of embossed animals in the jungle along the body, and the intern is covered with blue velvet. No Hallmarks, but has been acid tested and shows to be 900+ standard solid silver. Made around 1900.
