AN EXCEPTIONAL ANTIQUE HAND PAINTEDROYAL PORCELAIN MANUFACTORY / STATE\'S PORCELAIN MANUFACTORY(KPM)HARD PASTE PORCELAIN COVERED BOWL / CUP & SAUCER... 1823-1870 (1763-present)

This piece is older than the other KPM cup & saucer we have up for sale. Everything seen on this old porcelain is hand done. All the vignettes are different and tellclassical stories or at least classical scenery.

Thereare so many things happening on these pieces. There\'s nudity, conflict or games perhaps. Several large cats here such asleopards, cheetahs & lions. Also Roman or Greek soldiers. A charging black boar, mythological creatures, sea serpents, winged guardians... beautifully detailed Mediteranean landscapes... Essentially, hunt type scenes. Within blood red borders are monochromatic sea creatues and anchor form deities... Neptune probably. Several of the depictions make me think of the younger Greek or Roman gods.

Marble columns, gilted borders and accents... Everything surrounds one central figure on thesaucer.... and.... I\'ve no idea who it is.

The painting technique is magnificent. The skill it took topaint these old porcelains isunequaled. The very tiniest details have been captured. The illusions are complete. Please notice the marble columns... the extremely clean lines and borders... I can\'t imagine the time it took to produce these. Each unique.

All pieces are signed appropriatey.

Early blue KPM BEEHIVE / BEE HIVE marks (under glaze)are on the saucer and urn / cup. Both pieces are also impressed with variousmarks & numbers: 23, 89 or 68, 12, etc.(see photos please). The coveredvessel measures 4 1/4\" wide and tall. The underplate / saucermeasures 5\" across by 1 1/4\"deep.

The UNDERPLATE / SAUCER BOWLis in perfect condition! We were of a mind to sell it separately from the covered bowl since just the COVEREDBOWL exhibits ahandle repairas well as a small chip on the base edge. and an interior photo shownbelow revealsa hairline inside. NONE of which infringe on the painting and cannot be seen once in yourcabinet or while on display.They still present wonderfully and the damage is fairly expected after nearly 180 years or so. Study photos for details. As cabinet pieces, they serve their purpose as intended.

The beehive is generally considered to be ROYAL VIENNA and was also used by the ROYAL PORCELAIN MANUFACTORY of GERMANY (KPM). It\'s been a while since I \'ve sold old porcelains so I may have gotten it wrong.The colors and motif are certainly more Vienna than Germany...
