Antique Alphabet & Buttonhole Sampler - Annie G Stubbs Arts & Crafts Artist 1889:
An interesting small Victorian unframed redwork sampler embroidered on linen by Annie G Stubbs (Annie Grisedale Stubbs) in 1889 when she was 9 or 10. Annie went on to become a successful Arts & Crafts artist in the Midlands. Her records can be found on genealogy websites and more information can be found on this link http://www.pashutler.org.uk/page37.htm. among others.
I have included a photo of one of her metalwork designs.
The little sampler itself is unusual as it includes simple darning examples and practice buttonhole work. It is in good condition with no damage and measures about 8 by 7 inches (20.5 by 18 cm.)
The photos can be enlarged for more detail and to assess the condition.
I guarantee that this is a genuine antique sampler.
