HERE IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO PURCHASE SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CARVING.

I AM HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME PLACING IT TO CIRCA 1750S ENGLAND OR CIRCA 1750S PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN. A FEW MONTHS AGO I SOLD A SET OF REDWARE ENGLISH LIONS THAT HAD A SIMILAR POSE AND VERY SIMILAR FACE. I HAVE ALSO SEEN PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN LIONS WITH SIMILAR FACES AT LOCAL MUSEUMS. THIS WAS PURCHASED IN LANCASTER COUNTY SO I AM LEANING TOWARDS AMERICAN CARVED.

THIS APPEARS TO BE AN INKWELL OR QUILL HOLDER AS THERE ARE REMNANTS OF INK STAINS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE PIECE.

I BELIEVE IT MAY BE MISSING A SMALL GLASS BOTTLE THAT WOULD HAVE SLID IN THE HOLE NEAR ON HIS BACK.

IT IS A VERY DETAILED CARVING.

THE PIECE IS OVERALL IN GREAT SHAPE, HOWEVER, SOMEONE BACK IN THE DAY DECIDED TO PUT A CLEAR COAT OF SOMETHING ON THE PIECE. IT HAS WORN OFF IN SOME AREAS AND ONE CAN ONLY HOPE IN THE NEXT FEW DECADES THE REST WILL PEEL OFF TO BRING IT BACK TO THE FULL 1700S PATINA

THE PIECE MEASURES AROUND 5 1/4 INCHES LONG, AROUND 2 INCHES WIDE, AND AROUND 2 1/4 INCHES TALL.
