Antique Chinese Archaic Zhou Dynasty Style Bronze Ding Vessel Tripod Censer:
GJPaw salesis very pleased to offer an Archaic Chinese Bronze Ding Vessel. This style of vessel was used during the Late Spring and Autumn Period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (1122-720 BCE). The vessel is comprised of a traditional spherical shape, raised on short waisted legs, with three "ring" finials. The vessel is covered with verdigris patina and mineral deposits. The ovoid body stands on tripodal hollow-cast feet with exposed clay inner cores. Throughout much of Chinese art, we see certain numbers repeated, in this piece it is the number three. The number three is pronounced "Sun" in Chinese and considered particularly auspicious because it is the name of Sun Tzu, the respected general, strategist, and philosopher who lived during the Spring and Autumn Period. Shallow surface pitting is also present. Pieces of this type can date back to the 6th century BC, but please use the images to determine the vessel's age for yourself. The vessel is in very good condition, and measures 6 inches tall and 8 inches wide.
