Antique Chinese Imperial Qing Period Yongzheng Style Famille Rose Porcelain Dish:
Up for sale is a superb Famille Rose Dish, enameledon the interior with two intertwining branches, one large gnarled prunus branch extending around the curve with subtle peach flowers, and another delicate extended branch with a pair of large camellia blossoms. The branches are growing amongst a ground of bamboo and lingzhi sprigs, all which continue onto the underside of the dish.
Beautiful scenes of auspicious wildlife, including plants, insects, and birds were enameled on Imperial wares first under the Yongzheng Emperor and continued into the later centuries because of the beauty anddesirabilityof the style. This dish is enameled (hand-painted) with the level of quality seen in the Imperial workshops from the 17th to 19th centuries, and is marked with a very precise iron-red "Yuan Ming Tang Zhi" mark. This mark translates as "Made for the Hall of Perfect Brightness" and is likely a reference to "Yuan Ming Yuan" - the Old Summer Palace known as the "Gardens of Perfect Brightness". This is an extremely rare piece. The dish was likely made for either: 1) use in the Old Summer Palace during the 19th century, or 2) commissioned as a part of a tribute set by the Tongzhi Emperor during the "Tongzhi Restoration" of the Yuan Ming Yuan.
The dish is in great condition with signs of age dating to the 19th century. There is minor wear to the enamel, minor shelf wear, and a very small amount of rim fritting. There are no cracks and no breaks and no repairs. The dish is all original. The dish measures 9.5 inches in diameter by 1.75 inches tall.
