Antique Chinese Kangxi Mk Iron-red Ground Blue & White Dragon Vase W/ Carved Lid For SaleUp for sale is a rare Iron-Red Ground Blue & White Glazed Lidded Jar. The exterior is painted with a continuous scene of various mythological creatures rising from turbulent waves on rocky outcrops. The piece is extremely well painted, depicting various images of dragons, foo dogs, and qilin - all important imagery in traditonal Chinese art and culture. The blue decoration is underglazed and the red is overglazed, with the interior glazed white. The piece is well-proportioned and was potted in two sections and joined together at the mid-section, a technique documented by Jan-Erik Nilsson during his study of Qing Dynasty potting techniques at Jingdezhen. The piece is very graphic and very unique, as we have had a very difficult time finding comparable examples. The piece comes with a vintage carved hardwood lid and measures 9.125 inches tall with the lid and 8.25 inches tall without the lid. The piece is approximately 8.5 inches wide. The exterior surface shows wear consistent with pottery from the Qing Dynasty period (pre-1908), including iron spots in the glaze as well as minor nicks and scratches. There are no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs on the jar. It is the best jar-form piece of porcelain that we have ever acquired. The bottom of the piece is marked with a Kangxi six-character mark within a double circle. On Jul-26-13 at 18:37:59 PDT, seller added the following information:
