Antique Circa. Mid 19th C. Turkish Ghiordes Prayer Rug Fabulous Condition - Rare For Sale
Title:
This is a beautiful example of an antique Turkish prayer rug, a Ghiordes from the 1850's or older, in incredible intact condition.
Provenance:
This prayer rug was made in the town of Gordes or Ghiordes in prayer rug format, most likely never used as a prayer rug. Ghiordes prayer rugs have always been highly sought after. This rug has a full pile and absolutely no defects, and could be both used as a floor rug, or as a fantastic wall hanging. It has at least 15 different colors. It has the classic "apple blossom and leaf" border often related to as a clown face. This rug will make a fabulous accent in any room, my recommendation would be to be only used as a wall hanging piece now, to preserve its integrity. It has no holes, flat spots reweaves, it is in its original condition, unusualin-itselfto find such a fabulous intact piece.
Details:
All 100% wool, the foundation is as follows: Warps and wefts are 2 strand natural un-dyed wool with 8 x 8 Symmetrical Turkish double knots equals a kpsi of 64, which is absolutely 100% typical of its heritage. It has 3-cord selvages (pristine) and ends with inch kilims and fringes which are 100% intact. The pile is 100% natural dyed wool or in Turkish "kok boyu" which literally translated mean "root dye".
Condition: 100% complete and fantastic. No repairs, or reweaves, holes or any other defects whatsoever.
Size: 4' 10" x 5' 9" (147 x 175 cms).Age circa. Mid 19'th Century, around 1850's.Picture # 12 is the reverse side of the rug. Photography: Nikon D7000 with an 24-85mm F2.8 lens, without flash, in daylight.
