Antique Civil War Era Carved Bakelite Religious Book Case W/ Tintype Photo For Sale
Here is a very lovely antique Civil War era carved black bakelite photo book or case with nicely detailed religious scene on both sides. It is a saint or priest resting under a tree with a bird. I think it is St. John of Capistrano with a swallow. It measures 1 7/8" x 2 1/16" x 5/8". Inside has blue velvet and a tintype photo of a young girl, in a dark satin dress. The case opens on a hinge and closes tight and secure. There is one very tiny chip on upper corner as shown in photo #3. On the inside, there is a tiny shallow chip/fleck under photo on corner, lower right. No other chips or cracks to entire piece. The case appears dark brown in photos due to camera light, but it is actually black in color. We ship international and combine.
