Antique Derby Silver Victorian Brides Basket Centerpiece ~ Cherub & Griffins ~nr For Sale
Welcome and thank you for visiting our sale!This listing is for an elegant antique Victorian brides basket centerpiece. The quadruple silver plate holder was manufactured by the Derby Silver Company of Derby, Connecticut, and bears the company stamping as shown in the photo array.The holder features a cherub at the top of the handle, and four legs adorned with griffins. You will find wear to the silver, customary and expected given the nature and use. The photos accurately show the condition. One area I didn't get to include is the underneath side of the holder and that also shows wear to the silver. Message me if you have concerns and would like to see pictures of the under side of the bowl well. As you can see in the photos, the raised details are quite intricate. I love the figural Gothic Revival renderings on the feet!The crimped and fluted bowl displays a color fade done in the distinctive style of peachblow. The center is opalescent white which deepens along the wall to a soft lilac and intensifies at the crest to a royal purple or eggplant. The color of this art glass is just as relevant in today's palette as it was when it was crafted. A clear rim encircles the margin, and the effect is stunning in sunlight.Obvious to all who photograph art glass, the white shimmers on the bowl are merely flash from the sunlight hitting the surface. I don't find any breaks, bends, chips, cracks or signs of repairs to either the holder or the brides bowl. The holder does sit level on a flat surface. This set is being sold , and is as we acquired it. I have no idea whether the pieces are original to each other or married. Either way, it's irrelevant because the display is top-shelf fabulous!Overall the holder measures 13" high and 10-1/4" across the widest part of the handle. The well where the bowl foot sits measures 4-5/8" across the top rim and approximately 2-3/4" inside the well. The bowl measures 10-1/8" diameter at the widest point. It stands 3-1/2" tall and the foot is approximately 2-3/4" diameter. The pointl is sanded smooth as shown.Whether you're looking for an addition to your collection; a dramatic centerpiece for your table top or a choice offering for your gallery, this set is sure to satisfy.
