For sale here is a wonderful, antique Dresden porcelain lidded vase, witha crown and cushion finial on the lid. The vase is marked to the base with an underglaze blue mark of crossed 'swords' and the letters M and Q,or W and a symbol (depending on which way is up!). I have been unable to find the name of the maker who used this mark, but I know the decoration is top quality; possibly early Helena Wolfsohn. The vasedates from the 19th century.
This gorgeous, porcelain vase is exceptionally beautifully painted with courting figures in landscapes on a pink scale ground with fine gilding. The scenes depict ladies and gentlemen fishing, playingmusical instruments andsitting in landscapes.Make no mistake - the painting is superb quality; the panels look like miniature oil paintings.
The porcelain has almost a soft paste feel to it - warm and 'friendly' - if it wasn't for the decoration, you would think it was English.
This is a great opportunity to purchase an item of this rarequality and shape in a no-reserve sale, which isstarting at 95p.
The vase measures approximately 12 1/4 inches in height.
The vase is in overall very good condition apart from the finial (which has various old, metal repairs and one missing strap) and the rim (whichseems to have some old composite applied to the originalmetal rim; the metalcan be seenin places where the composite has cracked). The body of the vase is bolted to the base, as normal. The bolt looks very old. The vase displays excellently, as you can see from the photos. Please look over all photos for details.
