Antique Edwardian Meiji Period Satsuma Hatpin C 1900/ 3 Toed Dragon:
Beautiful Edwardian Satsuma Meiji Period Hatpin Depicting a Three Toed Dragon
Typical elongated tapered square shape with a depiction of a Three Toed Dragon. The Three Toed Dragon symbolisesgood luck, long life and protection againstmisfortune.
The length of the pin dates it to the Edwardian (1901 - 1911)period,as well as the quality of the painstaking and delicate brushwork which flourished in The gold work is particularly fine with a really raised 3D finish to it. I think this dragon has a wonderful expression on it's face too!
The piece speaks for itself. It has no chips or cracks. These hatpins are characterized by the colour of the glaze (old ivory or straw) and the intentional fine crackle lines over the exposed surface.
This hatpin belonged to my mother-in-law's Great Aunt Ethel (yes really) and I've also listed the other 5 in her collection. Take a look....
I shall post in a tube for safety. Please note I have stated "No Returns". I have been honest and the photos hide nothing!
With thanks for info.
