Product DetailsItem #:4-578-0Dimensions (inches):33.50H x 26.75W x 1.25DComment:Here\'s a great, large antique German print dating to 1900 for your nursery or child\'s bedroom. Titled \"Doux Sommeil” or \"sweet slumber” at the bottom, this antique print features a child who\'s just fallen asleep in his ornately carved cradle while his nursemaid watches over him. She\'s been spinning yarn on the spinning wheel in the foreground and has cracked open one of the leaded glass windows to allow the breeze to cool the room. This charming monochrome print is based on a painting of by C. Boker and comes framed as overall good condition. Antique and vintage items by their very nature show normal wear to finish and miscellaneous scratches, nicks, and dings due to age and use. As we define \'good condition\' relative to the stated age of the piece, we would expect to see \'character marks\' consistent with that age and could include nicks or dings to a wooden, metal, enamel, or chalkware object, wear to a painted surface, speckling on a mirror, crazing, wear to gilding, or manufacturing glaze skips in ceramic finish, wear to a label, and some original decorative trim may be missing. If ceramic/porcelain restoration has been done, it is of museum-quality so that it is hardly discernible and would be specifically mentioned in the listing. \'Good condition\' could include very small fleabite chips or very small hairline cracks in any glass, ceramic, or marble item, but these would be specifically mentioned in the listing.

Item Specifics:Shows normal wear to finish and a minor damage spot on the frame due to age and use. This is a beautiful old frame! The print and matting show some spotting, but is still very nice.ShippingFree Shipping:Free shipping only applies within the Contiguous 48 United States and this item will be shipped via a Ground shipping service (UPS or FedEx), approximate 1-6 business day shipping time. CHALKWAREChalkware is a term that refers to decorative items made out of gypsum, which were very popular from the late 18th century through the 1930s. Gypsum is a mineral compound also called sulphate of lime, which is usually found underground near limestone deposits. Raw gypsum is a pure white crystal called alabaster. When gypsum is heated, the resulting white powder is called burnt gypsum, also known as Plaster of Paris for the large gypsum deposit at Montmartre in Paris. Ordinary schoolroom chalk is also a form of burnt gypsum. Gypsum is easily cast into sculptures and decoration for frames, but is quite soft and breaks easily.
