Meiji Period of great artistry. Exhibitslively and strong presence. Exceptionally well done with an exquisite undulating dragon, cast in the lost wax method,curving around the side in spectacular three dimensional fashion. The vase stands upon three feet that are crafted with swirling waves splashing upwards toward the dragon.Gorgeous form that is both delicate and strong.The master craftsmanship is exceptional, and thetotal effect is stunning. Subtle changes in light throughout the day create differing effects with the shadows bringing the dragon lifelike movement. The usubata is in two sections, as is traditional, and may be used with the round upper section or without. In excellent antique condition with an elegant golden patina. Of significant size, measuring approximately 11 3/8" tall and 11 5/8" across.An amazing find for the connoisseur of fine Japanese antiques.
