American architect William Spratling emigrated there in 1926 and recognized the talent of the local artisans for creating artwork in sterling silver. Slowly the city became a mecca and enclave for silversmiths to develop their design skills. Hector Aguilar began his career in Taxco as the manager of William Spratling\'s silver workshop Taller de las Delicias in 1936. By 1939 Aguilar opened his own Taxco workshop. The Eagle bell mark was used by the government of Mexico from 1946 through 1979 to signify products as being sterling silver.DESCRIPTIONThis listing is for an antique Hector Aguilar Aztec pattern sterling silver flatware teaspoon. The Aztec pattern is characterized by an incised handle with an end piece of bifurcate scrolls accented with a sterling silver bead.The underside of the spoon carries the word STERLING, the Eagle bell mark with the number 9, and the HA logo mark. The number 9 signifies that Aguilar was the 9th artist to register as an artist in Taxco.CONDITIONThis antique Hector Aguilar Taxco sterling silver Aztec teaspoon is in wonderful condition. The surface of the sterling is free of any bends, dents, or deep scratches. The surface of the sterling silver also carries a warm vintage patina; I have polished the surface of the spoon to the best of my ability. This antique Aguilar teaspoon has come from a smoke free estate collection and is odor free.~SHIPPING COSTS~ I will be shipping this item to you via United States Priority Mail insured shipping.
