This is an antique Japanese kabuki scriptbook originally hand written Japanese calligraphy in the Meiji era (c.1890). The title of the plays is \"Koi Nyobo\" (Beloved wife). This book contains over 25 of these double pages. The print is of a style common to the cultural elite of the day. The paper this book is made of took over 200 days to make and is made of the inner bark of the gampi tree and made to last virtually indefinitely.
Despite its age, the print is still very clear, and the pages turn easily. Picture 7 shows the hand binding techniqueof this 2 century old method of book making. There is some wear to the paper but overall, this book and all its pages remains in goodcondition. It measures 6 1/2\" by 4 1/2\" (16.5 x 11.5 cm).
