Antique Russian Enamel Beaker / Cup Of Sorrows 1896 Coronation Tsar Nicholas Ii:
A Russian enamel beaker commemorating the 1896 Coronation of Tsar Nicholas II with crowned initials, the imperial double-headed eagle and the date. These beakers are also known as a Cup of Sorrows or blood Cup because of the tragedy that occurred when they were handed out as free gifts. About 500,000 people gathered and 1389 died in the crush - it is known as the Khodynka Tragedy after the field where it took place.
The beaker is in good condition, with a little age wear, fading and minor chips (see photos). It measures about 4 inches (10 cm.) high.
