ANTIQUE SILVER GOLD CARVED SHELL CAMEO PIN BROOCH c1890 APHRODITE EROS SWANS An antique natural shell cameo; hand carved to depict a classical figure (Aphrodite or Eros?) holding flowers and riding achariot being drawn by two swans, with a gilt metal bezel and later solid silver mount for wear as a pin.
An unusual subject...very collectable!
CONDITION:Slight wear commensurate with age and use.Remounted in antiquity.Smallnick to top of shell, see pictures. May benefit from a clean.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1880/90, possibly older. Not marked.
DIMENSIONS:Mount 52 x 39mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 12.3grams.
