Antique Tibetan Buddhist Thangka Temple Painting Of Longevity Buddha Amitayus For Sale
salesis very pleased to offer a Tibetan Thangka Painting.
The Thangka depicts the trinity of longevity - Amitayus, Sitatara, and Ushnishavijaya. The central and largest figure is the Buddha Amitayus, also known as the Buddha of Longevity, responsible for conveyance of good fortune and wisdom. The Buddha Amitayus is depicted holding the vessel of long-life filled with the nectar of immortality. To the right is the Sitatara, a deity known for compassion and healing. To the left is Ushnishavijaya, a deity known for fulfillment of wordly desires.
The Thangka measures 14.75 inches wide by 23.75 inches tall ( 37.47 cm W x 60.33 cm H) and is in condition consistent with the 18th century. There are areas of small paint-loss from handling, possibly from being carried from one temple to another, and evidence of soiling from exposure to moisture. It's likely that this piece was exposed to the elements in a temple, possibly one with a very old roof, for quite some time. Please see all of the images. Overall, the Thangka is very stable, and is a museum quality example of Tibetan history. It would make an exceptional addition to any collection of Chinese, Tibetan, or Himalayan art, painting and antiques.
