Antique Vega Professional Tenor Banjo 1928 Jos Rogers Jr Original Case:
Up for offer is a 1928 Vegaphone “Professional”, 19 fret,tenor banjo. Has 32 hole tubaphone tone ring. Features include split, maple neck (reinforced to prevent warping according to Vega booklet) and maple, pie-sectioned resonator with tortoise binding. Resonator removes easily with one screw. Ebony overlay on fret board has mother of pearl dot inlays, as well as, mother of pearl scroll on 1st fret and star on 7th fret. Mother of pearl “Vega” logo on head stock. Tuners have ivoroid buttons. Stamped "PAT. PEND". “Vegaphone Professional, Presto” tail piece(see photo). Vega metal arm rest. I believe head is original and is signed, “Jos Rogers, Jr, Made in USA, 1st Quality Warranted”. Original strings, bridge and Vega key are included but are not on the banjo. Has 3 of the original strings as shown in photos but I will include a new set of “Vega” Tenor Nickel Wound strings (set of 4). Inner ½ inch, maple rim is stamped with serial number 81541. Made by Vega in Boston, Mass. See photos of stamps and hallmarks. Comes in original case with all working latches and blue plush lining. Banjo has light scratches and wear from use. Case has wear to handle and scuffs and scrapes to outside as well. Both are in good condition, however, for age. Most of the info in this description has come from research on the instrument.
