Antique Victorian Berlin Woolwork Plushwork Embroidery Glass Eyes Spaniel & Boy For Sale
A lovely unframed Victorian Berlin woolwork embroidery of a small boy with his picture book, sitting beside his trusty friend, a black and white spaniel in plush work, with glass eyes. It dates from around 1860 to 1870.
The embroidery is in good condition with some age darkening and a few small snags to the background canvas (see photos). It has been backed with cream fabric at some time in the past - this is stitched to the edges, not glued. The marks on the background are not stains but an effect caused in the photos by the silky fabric backing.
The whole piece measures about 20 by 21 inches (51 by 53.5 cm.), while the embroidered part measures 16 by 17.5 inches (41 by 44.5 cm.)
The photos can be enlarged for more detail and to assess the condition.
I guarantee that this is a genuine antique Victorian embroidery.
