ANTIQUE VICTORIAN CARVED & TURNED WOOD KNITTING SHEATH STICK c1850 DescriptionWonderful antique Victorian carved wood/treen knitting sheath, which would have been used tucked into the knitters belt or apron to allow a free hand and increase the speed of knitting. The sheath has simple turned handlewith hole to the centre to hold a needle.AGEKnitting sheaths were used in Great Britain from as early as the 15th through to the end of the 19th century, although this sheath would date to the middle of the 19th century, circa 1850.
SIZEThe sheath measures 19cm (7½") long and 1.5cm (½") in diameter.
CONDITIONThe sheath is in a very condition for age, although has been well used and as to be expected there are marks and scratches to the wood, with several cracks to the wood. Also there is a small paint spot to the top end. Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition.
