Antique Victorian Silver Vinaigrette George Unite 1871 Birmingham Sterling $1 Nr For Sale

Click to View Image Album This is an antique English sterling silver vinaigrette made by the esteemed George Unite, for sale to the high buyer. Please see my other listings for more English and other silver items. This beautiful little box features an engraved exterior and a fancy scrolled and pierced gilt grill that opens on a side hinge to reveal the gilt interior. The inside of the lid is hallmarked with the date letter W for 1871, the anchor of Birmingham, the lion passant and Queen Victoria's head. There is also the maker's mark GU for George Unite of Caroline Street. The inside is also marked GU, with the Queen's head and the date letter W. You can scroll down to see more photos.

This fabulous vinaigrette measures just 1 1/4" by 5/8" and stands 3/8" tall. It weighs .2 oz (8 gr) on my little scale. There is a slight crack at one end of the cover, shown below. Otherwise, it is in very good condition, with normal signs of use and some tarnish. There are no bends, dings or dents. The dark areas you see are reflections from my camera.
