Vintage hickory wooden shafted Scottish splice neck driver. This is circa 1900, could well be an 1890’s club. This golf club was made by R. Anderson and Son of Edinburgh, Scotland. Crown originally stamped ‘Anderson & Sons, Princes St., Edinburgh.’ What is left of the crown stampings is, “An_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _, Princes St., Edinburg_.” Very nice ram’s horn slip plate remains undamaged and secured with its original three wooden dowels. The face shows some chipping or checking and some hairline cracks as the grain has started to open up (see pictures). There is also another tight hairline crack on the sole in the heel region (see picture). I think these hairlines are from the club head being in a dry environment over the years and not being properly protected with a wax. Old spliced neck or scare neck golf club with no cracks to the neck or shaft. Wooden shaft is without chips or cracks and has just a very slight bend. Total club length is 44 ½ inches. Intact newer leather wrap grip is over fat underlisting and in the correct period style. Neck and grip whippings are intact. Nice display club from a very well respected Scottish maker.
