This platter carries an English registry mark signifying when Wedgwood registered the Louise pattern, April 8, 1881.DESCRIPTIONThis sale is for an antique Staffordshire Wedgwood Louise brown transferware oval platter. The Louise pattern is quite typical of an aesthetic movement motif which features a geometric cartouche with an exotic design reminiscent of the Far East. The transfer pattern done on this platter is a deep brown color. The cartouche window carries the image of a sailing tall ship most likely on a voyage to the Far East. A second cartouche window pictures a body of water with Oriental style mountains in the background. The overall motif is quite linear in shape and also features a songbird hidden amongst the flowering branches in the background. The outer edge of the platter carries an Aesthetic style geometric border. The bottom of the platter carries the imprinted registry mark as well as the imprinted Wedgwood unicorn mark, and the impressed WEDGWOOD mark.CONDITIONIn my opinion the overall condition of this antique Wedgwood Louise Staffordshire oval platter is wonderful; the pottery is free of any chips, cracks, or flea bites. The transfer itself is crisp and clear. I did notice scattered tiny glaze imperfections typically found on earthenware of this age. There are also light usage wear marks which have not damaged the actual transfers in any way. The surface is free of crazing in the outer clear glaze layer. This platter has come from a smoke free estate collection and is odor free.~SHIPPING COSTS~ I am shipping this package to you via UPS Ground shipping; your package will be fully insured.
